Nom nom! The Pac-Man Frog is another name for me. Like the video game character, in a round form, and with my vast mouth, but I can also be known as a Horned Frog. I eat everything that moves — even the bugs and small rodents! Plus, I come in 18 different colors. Fancy, right? I’m a sit-and-wait predator, meaning I stay still and let my prey go to me. But just don't let your fingers get too close — I might think they are a snack! I’m not very active, but I can pack a powerful bite.
In the wild, you can find me residing in the lush landscapes of South America, where the rainforests offer a warm and humid environment, perfect for my survival. When cared for properly, I can enjoy a lengthy life span of 10 to 15 years, contributing to a healthy existence. Determining my gender becomes easier as I grow older: females typically reach lengths of 4 to 7 inches, while males range from 2 to 4 inches.
One of the most striking differences is in our colours; males are often vibrant and eye-catching, adorning bright lime, orange, and red hues, whereas females tend to present more subdued, tannish tones. Curiously, it’s rare to catch me with my eyes fully closed, even while I’m asleep, and I seldom blink fully—my eyes remain alert, reflecting my naturally grumpy demeanour.
I am a creature deeply motivated by food, and while it may take some effort to win my affection, once you do, you’ll find me more relaxed despite my ever-present grumpy expression. Patience and persistence will reward you with a different side of my personality.
