Salamander

Hello! I'm a Salamander, and I'm part of the Caudata order. You'll find me in moist habitats like wet forests and headstreams. My small body, short nose, and tail (yes, I have one!) set me apart. Oh, and my skin? It's smooth and moist, which helps me breathe through it. I am a latent Ninja frog, snagging flies and worms within the blink of an eye using my deadly tongue skills. I also have exceptional regenerative abilities; if I lose a limb, it will grow back. How cool is that?

I have roamed this planet for an astonishing period, even long before the dinosaurs existed around 40 million years ago! There are approximately 600 distinct species of salamanders, and they exhibit a fascinating array of shapes, sizes, and colours. Interestingly, many species of us lack both lungs and gills, relying instead on our skin's moisture to absorb the oxygen they need to survive.

Unlike most animals, I don't require frequent meals; I can thrive on just a few meals each year, and some of my relatives can endure without food for almost a decade, especially those that dwell in the depths of caves. I am a naturally elusive creature, often seeking refuge in hidden corners, as I tend to be easily startled and quite shy. Gaining my trust can take time, but when I do decide to open up, I might still display a hint of my bashful nature, even as I warm up to the idea of attention.
