Hello! I’m your calm and cosy Royal Python. I’m a snake, but don’t worry—I’m not venomous. I have different beautiful colours and patterns. I like to curl up into a ball when I’m shy. That’s why people also call me a Ball Python. I live in warm places and love to hide. Mice and rats are my favourite snacks. I move slowly and like to take my time. I’m gentle and easy to handle. Snuggling in warm spots is my happy place!
I may not be the largest snake in the world, but I can reach an impressive length of up to 6 feet, making me longer than many of the people you might encounter. With a lifespan that can extend to 40 years—or even longer with the attentive care of my human companions—I represent a significant commitment for anyone considering me as a pet. My name, Royal Python, reflects my regal history; many African rulers adorned themselves with me, draping me around their necks like exquisite jewellery, thanks to my gentle and sociable nature.
One of the unique traits of female royal pythons is their dedicated maternal instinct. During the rare occasion of laying eggs, they coil tightly around them, providing essential protection and warmth. I'm a naturally curious creature, and there's no reason to feel frightened by my presence; I would never intentionally harm anyone. I enjoy a cosy cuddle and have often been seen lounging as if watching TV, showcasing my affectionate demeanour.
