Scorpion

Watch out! I’m the Scorpion, an ancient and fascinating arachnid with a threatening sting. My pincers are perfect for grasping prey. Furthermore, my venomous sting is located at the end of my curved tail, which is my ultimate weapon. I’m nocturnal, preferring to hunt insects and small animals in the dark. My diet includes crickets, beetles, and sometimes even small vertebrates.

My exoskeleton glows under ultraviolet light, a mysterious trait scientists are still studying. Despite my fearsome reputation, I play a vital role in controlling insect populations. I prefer to avoid confrontation, using my pincers and venom only when necessary. My ability to succeed in diverse environments, ranging from deserts to rainforests, has enabled my survival for millions of years. Whether you find me fascinating or fearsome, there’s no denying that I’m a remarkable survivor.

Curious about my eyes? I possess two prominent eyes on top, accompanied by an array of two to five lateral eyes on each side, creating as many as five pairs. Despite my swift movements aided by my sharp stinger and powerful pincers, my vision leaves much to be desired—I can only detect shifts in light and shadow. However, my other senses are remarkably acute, compensating for this shortcoming.

My species is one of the ancient inhabitants of this planet, having roamed the Earth for an astounding 420 million years, making us one of the first to adapt to terrestrial life. When I first emerged into the world, I appeared quite different—pale and delicate, my body soft and vulnerable. In those early days, I could not feed independently or employ my stinger for survival. I would cling to my mother's back for warmth and protection, a haven until I underwent my first moult. Once I molted my first exoskeleton, I ventured, ready to embrace life alone.
