Creepy Crawly Workshop: Halloween Animal Encounters for Kids in the UK

September 11, 2025

Get ready for Halloween this October at our Animal Encounter workshops! You'll learn some spooky facts and get a close look at a variety of animals and reptiles.

Halloween is the perfect time to explore the spooky, the mysterious, and the downright creepy! At Wild Science, we bring the excitement of Creepy Crawly Workshops straight to your school, party, or community event.

Wild Science is among the UK's leading providers of animal workshops and encounters. Our animal encounter workshops are tailored for children of all ages, combining engaging hands-on activities with the excitement of encountering real mini-beasts and captivating animals that fit perfectly with your Halloween theme.

Why Choose Creepy Crawly Workshops for Halloween?

Pumpkins and costumes are fun, but nothing beats the excitement of handling a tarantula, watching a millipede crawl, or learning about the strange behaviours of giant snails and stick insects. Our workshops bring the magic of science and animals together, creating a memorable Halloween experience that's both entertaining and educational.

Children don't just watch — they participate. By holding, touching, and observing our fascinating creatures, they gain confidence and develop a sense of wonder about the natural world.

Meet the Creepy Crawly Stars

Our Halloween animal encounters feature a mix of invertebrates, reptiles, and mammals, with plenty of spooky-themed favourites:

Depending on the event, other animals such as cockroaches, millipedes, and stick insects can join the fun too!

Have a particular animal in mind? Just ask – Our experienced team brings a wide variety of animals from the animal kingdom straight to your venue, giving guests the chance to learn about them up close.

We provide engaging and educational events across the United Kingdom, helping people explore the wonders of the animal world. Even if we have never visited your area before, rest assured that we will do our best to bring joy to you at your doorstep throughout the UK.

👉 Please note that the list of animals we bring to events may vary, and we cannot guarantee the presence of any particular species due to health reasons.

The Science Behind Halloween Animals: Educational Value

Our Halloween workshops feature carefully selected animals that demonstrate the crucial role these often-misunderstood creatures play in ecosystems. Through hands-on encounters with tarantulas, snakes, and invertebrates, children discover the fascinating science behind these "spooky" animals.

Arachnids: Nature's Pest Controllers

Our Halloween workshops feature carefully selected tarantulas and other arachnids that demonstrate the crucial role these creatures play in ecosystems.

Children learn about the incredible strength and adaptability of scorpions, from their powerful pincers to their highly sensitive hairs that detect even the slightest vibrations. They explore how different scorpion species have evolved unique hunting methods, such as ambushing prey under the cover of darkness. Also, discover how scorpions play a vital role in controlling insect populations, making them essential for maintaining ecological balance.

Most importantly, we dispel common misconceptions about scorpion venom and behaviour, helping children understand that while all scorpions have venom, most species are harmless to humans.

👉 Did you know? Scorpions glow under ultraviolet (UV) light! When you shine a blacklight on them, their bodies light up a spooky blue-green colour — like something straight out of a Halloween mystery.

Reptiles: Cold-Blooded Wonders

Halloween-themed reptile encounters feature species that have been associated with mystery and magic throughout history. Children discover how snakes' unique anatomy allows them to move without limbs and sense their environment through vibrations. They learn about the incredible camouflage abilities of reptiles and how they've adapted to survive in various environments, while understanding ectothermy and how reptiles use external heat sources to regulate their body temperature.

We also explore the threats facing reptile populations and how conservation efforts are helping protect these vital species.

👉 Did you know? Snakes use their tongues to smell the air! They flick their tongue in and out to collect scent particles, then "taste" them with a special organ in their mouth called the Jacobson's organ. It's like having a superpower nose — perfect for slithering through the dark on a Halloween night!

Invertebrates: The Unsung Heroes

Our Halloween workshops showcase the incredible diversity of invertebrates that are often overlooked or feared. Children learn about chemical defences and how millipedes protect themselves from predators, explore the remarkable camouflage abilities of stick insects and their role in forest ecosystems, and understand the incredible variety of beetle species and their importance in decomposition and nutrient cycling.

Through Animal encounters, children discover how invertebrates shape their environments and support other species.

👉 Did you know? Some millipedes, such as those in the genus Motyxia, can glow in the dark or give off a spooky chemical that smells like garlic when they feel threatened. It's their way of saying "Back off!" — a perfect trick for a Halloween night!

We booked a corporate animal therapy session as part of Mental Health Awareness week, and it was truly loved by everyone. The animal expert Harriet was absolutely fantastic - super knowledgable, engaging and clearly passionate about every animal she introduced us to. The visit included a snake, rabbit, gerbil, snail and more - all of which were super theraputic! It was amazing to see how quickly the team relaxed and connected with the animals. Harriet created such a calm environment that even our more hesitant colleagues were soon happily holding the snake.

We can't recommend Wild Science highly enough - if you're looking to boost morale, reduce stress or just do something a little bit different for your team.

Ross was absolutely amazing. So patient, kind and knowledgeable of the animals and the slime workshop. We had a party of 20 and with the madness that ensued he was always calm and reassuring for each child if they were apprehensive of holding any animal - big or small.
