Easy Science Experiments for Preschoolers Kids

Science experiments are amazing for sparking curiosity and creating a love of discovery in young minds. Whether you're a teacher, parent, or caregiver, introducing simple science experiments for kids can be educational and fun. Imagine turning an ordinary afternoon into a bubbly, colourful and mesmerising experience that kids will discuss for weeks.

When we think of kids' science experiments, the goal is to make learning accessible. Through hands-on activities, kids get to understand scientific concepts that seem complex at first.

Let’s look at ideas for a science experiment your little ones will love.

Simple Science Experiments for Kids to Do at Home

Science experiments for kids at home don’t have to be complicated. With a few household items, you can create a magical moment for learning.

The Baking Soda and Vinegar Volcano

This kid’s science experiment is a showstopper. Combine baking soda, vinegar and food colouring to create a foaming volcano. The fizzing reaction demonstrates acids and bases. Kids learn chemistry basics while having fun with this fun science experiment.

For an extra dose of wonder, explore sensory-based learning with our Bubble and Balloons Workshop.

Rainbow in a Glass

Layering liquids of different densities to create a rainbow in a glass is another cool activity. Kids will love watching the colours stack up.

This simple science experiment for kids introduces density in an interactive, hands-on way.

Fun & Easy Preschool Science Experiments

Preschoolers are little scientists, always exploring and asking questions. Fun science experiments for kids can make these explorations even more fun.

Magical Milk

Use milk, food colouring and dish soap to show how soap interacts with fat.
Preschoolers will be amazed at the swirling colours in the bowl.

Static Electricity Balloon

Rub a balloon or a sweater on your hair and watch as it picks up small pieces of paper. This easy science experiment introduces kids to static electricity.

Pair this with our Electricity Workshop for Kids to deepen the learning experience.

Easy Science Experiments for Kids To Do at Home

Sometimes, the best science experiments for kids are the ones they can do in their home.

Homemade Lava Lamp

Combine water, oil and Alka-Seltzer tablets in a jar to make a homemade lava lamp. The bubbling is not only cool but also teaches kids about oil and water not mixing.

Invisible Ink Messages

Kids can write secret notes using lemon juice. Hold the paper over a light source, and the invisible ink reappears. This experiment introduces the concept of oxidation in a simple way.

Simple & Safe Science Experiments for Preschoolers

Safety first when designing science experiments for kindergartners. Here are some fun and risk-free ideas.

Salt and Ice Observation

Sprinkle salt on an ice cube and watch how it melts faster than plain ice. This experiment explains why salt is used on icy roads in winter.

The Balloon Rocket

Tie a balloon to a straw on a string. Inflate the balloon and let it go, and you will have a simple rocket. This science activity introduces physics concepts like propulsion and thrust in a way kids can see and feel.

Cloud in a Jar

Create a cloud with water vapour, smoke and ice. Kids can see condensation happening before their eyes.

For more interactive experiences tailored to different abilities, We offers Special Education Needs Workshops.

Easy Science Experiments for Preschoolers in Kindergarten

Preschool science experiments need to be simple but engaging. Here are some ideas for easy science experiments to do at home for kids:

Oobleck: The Non-Newtonian Fluid

Mix cornstarch and water to create a solid and liquid substance. Kids can poke it, watch it flow and learn about states of matter.

Pair it with our States of Matter for more interactive fun.

Magnetic Slime

Add iron filings to slime and watch it move under a magnet’s influence. This experiment introduces magnetism in a hands-on and visual way.

Pair it with our Fizz Bang Pop Experiments for more interactive fun.

Why Science Experiments Are Important for Kids

Science experiments are more than just fun for kids; they are the foundation for critical thinking, problem-solving, and curiosity.

Preschool science experiments like making rainbows, creating clouds or building rockets help develop fine motor skills and logical thinking.
When done in a group setting, like a classroom or workshop, kids' science experiments also promote teamwork and communication.

For animal and science lovers, our Nursery and Pre-School Animal Workshops offer a unique way to connect science and nature.

Incorporating cool science experiments into daily activities makes learning an adventure for children. Each experiment is a stepping stone to understanding the world, the curiosity that can last a lifetime.

We booked a corporate animal therapy session as part of Mental Health Awareness week, and it was truly loved by everyone. The animal expert Harriet was absolutely fantastic - super knowledgable, engaging and clearly passionate about every animal she introduced us to. The visit included a snake, rabbit, gerbil, snail and more - all of which were super theraputic! It was amazing to see how quickly the team relaxed and connected with the animals. Harriet created such a calm environment that even our more hesitant colleagues were soon happily holding the snake.

We can't recommend Wild Science highly enough - if you're looking to boost morale, reduce stress or just do something a little bit different for your team.

We were delighted to have both Shannon & Amy attend our free family event at Crystal Peaks shopping centre this Friday. Their communication on the run-up to our event was great. On the day, the head office called us to check everything was ready & the hosts arrived in plenty of time. We had a lot of very excited guests that got to enjoy a range of fascinating creatures throughout the day. The team were great with the public & very knowledgeable about their little critters. We can't recommend Wild Science enough. Thank you for making our day so good.

Thank you Wild Science for such an amazing party! Amy was super professional and had the kids eating out of the palm of her hand. My son absolutely loved the animals she brought and we were so impressed with how she handled the group (of 3-5 year olds) and gave them interesting and fun facts about each animal which kept all the kids interested and engaged. It was so much fun, we would highly recommend it!!!

Ross was absolutely amazing. So patient, kind and knowledgeable of the animals and the slime workshop. We had a party of 20 and with the madness that ensued he was always calm and reassuring for each child if they were apprehensive of holding any animal - big or small. Would 100% book Wild Science again, especially Ross.
Thank you for making our animal lovers birthday so special!
