This summer, libraries across the UK are taking part in the Summer Reading Challenge and this year’s theme is “Story Garden”. This theme encourages children to go on an adventure in nature and enjoy the great outdoors. To tie in with this Wild Science are running a special workshop that fits in with the Summer Reading Challenge. As well as educational presentations children will also get to interact with and handle some of the animals creating a memorable and hands on experience that will foster a deeper appreciation of wildlife. This unique event is a mix of storytelling and animal exploration and children will leave with unforgettable memories and a new respect for the animal kingdom. Animals are a great resource for learning not just for children but for other animals. Many people benefit from hands on experiences especially ones that leave a lasting impression. Interacting with animals in person enhances the learning process by engaging multiple senses and creating a deeper connection.
Observing and handling animals not only increases understanding of different species but also empathy and respect for living things. These memorable experiences can lay the foundation for future learning and foster curiosity and a positive attitude towards nature and wildlife.
Other benefits:
Reduced Stress and Anxiety: Spending time with animals can reduce stress and anxiety levels and create a more calm and conducive environment for learning and overall well being.
Improved Social Skills: Animals can be a common ground for interaction and bonding and help children develop social skills and build relationships.
Enhanced Responsibility: By caring for an animal children learn about responsibility, nurturing and looking after others.
Cognitive Development: Interaction with animals can stimulate cognitive development including language acquisition and problem solving skills.
Improved Self-Esteem: When children see that their efforts make a positive impact on an animal’s well being it boosts their sense of achievement and self esteem.
