More about Care Home Animal Therapy
Comfort, Connection, Companionship in Care Homes
Wild Science offers specialised Animal Therapy services for care homes, designed to enhance the well-being of residents through human-animal interaction. In a care home animal therapy session, our approach uses trained animals to support emotional, physical, and social health. We customise these sessions specifically to meet the needs of those living in care facilities
Animal Therapy creates a powerful bond between people and animals. This bond can promote healing and improve quality of life. The calming presence of animals helps residents feel safe, relaxed, and comforted. Interacting with therapy animals has been shown to ease anxiety and reduce feelings of depression. It can also inspire greater motivation to take part in daily activities.
Therapy sessions encourage communication and build stronger relationships among residents. Group activities that involve caring for and playing with animals offer moments of joy, laughter, and connection. These experiences help residents feel more socially engaged and emotionally fulfilled. Feeling the different textures and hearing the different sounds and movements are beneficial to help stimulate your senses.
Can you go to bed-bound residents, too?
We believe everyone should have the opportunity to experience animal therapy. That’s why we also offer bed-bound tours for residents who can’t leave their rooms. Our experts bring the animals to them, so it’s a personal and inclusive experience.
What animals are used?
At Wild Science, we use a variety of animals to provide a sensory experience. These may include reptiles, mammals, amphibians and invertebrates.
Note: While we try to bring variety to every session, we cannot guarantee the presence of specific animals each time. Animal safety and well-being always come first.
Recommended Session Duration & Ages:
Our Care Home Animal Therapy is perfect for every care home and all ages within it.
For the best experience, we recommend a duration of 45 minutes to 1.5 hours. Of course, we're happy to extend it if you'd like, but those timeframes work beautifully for an animal therapy session, and if it's longer, a bed-bound tour.
