More about Scouts/Brownies
Animal and Science Workshops for Scouts and Brownies
Give your Rainbows, Brownies, Cubs, Scouts, and Guides an unforgettable hands-on learning experience with Wild Science. We deliver interactive animal handling and science workshops across the UK that support badge work, build confidence, and spark curiosity in a fun and safe way.
Our mobile workshops travel nationwide and can be delivered at your scout hut, school, community venue, or outdoor event. Each session is tailored to your group’s age range, badge focus, and learning goals, making it a perfect enrichment activity for meetings, camps, and activity days.
We don’t just teach science - we bring it to life.
What Makes Our Scout & Brownie Workshops Special
Wild Science workshops combine real animal encounters with exciting hands-on science activities. This unique mix keeps young people engaged while supporting badge development and practical learning.
Participants don’t just watch. They interact, ask questions, and discover through experience. Our sessions help young people develop teamwork, confidence, and respect for animals and the natural world.
We work with all sections, including:
- Rainbows
- Brownies
- Guides
- Beavers
- Cubs
- Scouts
Each session is adapted to suit different age groups and abilities.
Animal Handling Experience
Our animal handling workshops give young people the chance to meet and interact with a variety of fascinating, well-cared-for animals in a safe and structured environment.
Animals may include reptiles, amphibians, small mammals, and invertebrates depending on availability and welfare considerations. Every interaction is supervised by experienced handlers who guide participants through safe handling and respectful behaviour around animals.
Please note that Animal selection may vary depending on availability and welfare considerations.
During the session, participants will:
- Learn how to approach animals safely
- Understand animal body language and behaviour
- Explore habitats, adaptations, and life cycles
- Discover conservation and responsible pet ownership
- Build confidence through gentle interaction
We actively involve the children throughout - asking questions, encouraging predictions, and allowing time for safe handling and observation.
Science Workshops for Scouts & Brownies
Our science workshops bring energy, excitement, and discovery to your meeting or event. Our workshops are designed to provide a hands-on, interactive experience that connects with core concepts in biology, physics, chemistry and environmental science. We focus on age-appropriate content to ensure learners can relate to and engage with the material effectively.
For participants, we include engaging activities such as nature, explosive, and messy experiments. We use simple, relatable terms and examples to explain the complex scientific processes behind our experiments.
Overall, our goal is to foster a connection between participants and the natural world, inspiring curiosity and a sense of responsibility towards the environment. We believe that by making these subjects engaging and relevant, we can cultivate a new generation of environmentally conscious individuals.
Popular workshop themes include:
Fizz Bang Pop
Watch and get involved with a variety of different chemical reactions.
States of Matter
Exploring the wonders of dry ice and how different states of matter work
Science of Slime
Time to get messy with slime. Create your own slime and learn the science behind how it works.
Science of Nature
Simple, safe experiments demonstrating concepts of nature and get down and messy with our world.
All content is adapted to the age group - whether that means simple discovery-based learning for younger sections or more detailed scientific explanation for older Scouts.
