More about Science of Sound
Science of Sound: Hands-On Experiment Workshop
Discover the fascinating world of sound through interactive, hands-on experiments designed to spark curiosity and deepen understanding. The Science of Sound Workshop brings physics to life as participants explore how sound is created, how it travels, and how we perceive it in our everyday world.
What Is Sound?
Sound is more than just something we hear—it’s energy in motion. In this workshop, participants learn how vibrations create sound waves and how those waves move through air, liquids, and solids. Through guided experiments, abstract scientific concepts become tangible and easy to understand.
What You’ll Explore
Participants will actively investigate key principles of sound science, including:
- How vibrations produce sound
- The relationship between frequency, pitch, and wavelength
- How amplitude affects loudness
- How sound travels through different materials
- Resonance and sound amplification
Hands-On Experiments
- This workshop emphasises learning by doing.
- Participants will create sound using everyday materials
- Visualise sound waves through interactive demonstrations
- Build simple instruments to explore pitch and volume
- Test how sound behaves in different environments
All experiments are age-appropriate, safe, and designed to encourage inquiry and collaboration.
Why Attend?
- Engaging, interactive learning experience
- Encourages critical thinking and problem-solving
- Connects real-world experiences with scientific concepts
- Makes physics fun, accessible, and memorable
Join us for an exciting journey into the science behind the sounds we hear every day—and experience science in action.

Recommended Session Duration & Ages:
Our Science of Sound Workshop is recommended for children aged 6 and older, as the concepts can be confusing for younger kids. However, we can adapt the workshop to suit any age group.
We suggest session lengths of 45 minutes to 1 hour, but we are happy to extend the duration if you wish to explore topics in more depth. Additionally, we offer full-day options comprising six 1-hour sessions, ideal for students of all ages.
