More about Social Stories for Animal Workshops
SEN Friendly Social Stories for Animal Workshops
At Wild Science, we want every participant to feel comfortable, confident, and excited when joining our animal workshops.
We understand that new environments, unfamiliar people, and unexpected experiences can sometimes feel overwhelming, particularly for individuals with Special Educational Needs (SEN).
To support accessibility and inclusion, we provide Animal Social Stories to help prepare participants before attending our workshops.
Our social stories are designed to help children and adults understand what to expect during a Wild Science animal workshop, helping to reduce anxiety and build confidence before the session begins.
What is a Social Story?
A social story is a simple guide that explains what will happen during an activity, event, or visit. Social stories are widely used in schools, SEN settings, and support environments to help individuals prepare for new experiences.
A social story usually include clear descriptions and visual elements that explain:
- Where the activity will take place
- Who participants might meet
- What will happen during the session
- How to take part safely and comfortably
For individuals with autism, sensory sensitivities, or additional learning needs, this makes new situations more predictable and easier to understand.
Our Animal Social Story
Our Wild Science Animal Social Story introduces participants to what happens during our interactive animal workshops.
It helps explain:
- The animals they may meet during the session
- What the workshop environment may look like
- How the animal encounter session will run
- How participants can safely and respectfully interact with the animals
Reading the social story in advance helps participants become familiar with the experience, allowing them to feel more relaxed and ready to enjoy meeting the animals.

If you are booking one of our animal workshops for schools or SEN groups, you can request or download the social story in advance.
We are happy to provide it to teachers, parents, carers, and support staff so participants can review it before the session.

Inclusive Animal Workshops for SEN
Providing social stories is one of the ways we make our animal encounters and educational workshops accessible to everyone.
Our goal is to create positive, engaging, and inclusive animal experiences where every participant can take part in a way that feels comfortable for them.
Wild Science delivers inclusive animal workshops for schools, care settings, community groups, and events. We regularly work with SEN schools, additional needs groups, and organisations supporting individuals with autism and other learning differences.
