More about Materials Science Workshop for Schools
Learning About Different Materials
Have you ever wondered why a house stands firm with its brick walls? Or what material makes the best boat? These questions ignite curiosity, and we at Wild Science have the answers. Our exciting Materials Science Workshop for School is designed to inspire young minds to explore, experiment, and discover.
Our Materials Science Workshop is a fully curriculum-aligned school science workshop designed for KS1 and KS2 pupils. From exploring properties to building bridges and testing buoyancy, children get hands-on in a way that brings the national curriculum to life. The sessions are available for primary schools across London and the UK.
Exploring Properties of Materials - KS1 and KS2 Science Workshop
Material Marvel’s
Materials surround us - wood, metal, plastic, and fabric. In our workshops, kids explore their properties. We touch, feel, and discover. It’s like a mini science lab where curiosity takes centre stage.
To learn more about how materials are classified and their properties in real-world applications, you can explore the Science Museum’s educational resources on materials.
The ‘Sink or Float’ Experiment
Picture a tub of water. We drop objects, such as wooden blocks, plastic toys, and metal spoons
- Which ones sink?
- Which ones float?
Kids predict, test, and learn about density. It’s science in action.
Building Bridges:
Challenge your brain and use every bit of creativity you have to design your own bridge!
We’ll learn all about different materials and how they can be used to build structures.
Find out what shapes and materials make the strongest structures. Then, put them to the test as a fun way to start your building career!
Recycle, Reuse, Reduce: Hands-On Materials Science for Schools
Everyday Environemental Sustainability
We talk about the three R’s, Recycle, Reuse, Reduce. Kids become eco-warriors.
They sort items like paper, plastic, and glass. We discuss why we recycle and how we can reuse them to think green.
Hands-on Material Separation
We separate recyclables, including bottles, cans, and cardboard. Kids learn that every choice matters, such as reusing plastic bottles to reduce waste.
Why Schools Book Our Materials Science Workshops
Our material workshops aren’t just about facts. They’re about sparking curiosity. Kids touch, experiment, and think. What makes a material strong? Why does it float? It’s learning with a smile.
From Pre-School to KS2, our workshops engage curious minds. Whether they’re 4 or 11, kids discover the magic of materials. It’s hands-on, it’s fun, and it’s a step toward a more sustainable world.
So, let’s explore materials together, brick by brick and idea by idea. This experiment requires sufficient adult presence, especially if using scissors.
Wild Science provides customised programs that cater to your specific needs. We deliver experiences across the country and engage children of all ages.
How do I book a Material Science Experiments workshop?
Booking is easy! Contact us, choose your preferred date and time, and prepare for a gooey adventure. Let’s make science come alive - one stretchy molecule at a time!
Recommended Session Duration & Ages:
Our Materials workshops are recommended for children aged 7 years and older. This recommendation is based on the complexity of the activities and experiments, which can be challenging for younger participants. However, younger children are still welcome to join, as we can adapt our workshops to accommodate all age groups.
We suggest session lengths of 45 minutes to 1 hour. If you are hosting a school event or a large gathering, we can accommodate multiple sessions in one day to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to participate.
