More about Dinosaur Workshops for Schools
What are Dinosaur Workshops?
Wild Science brings dinosaur workshops for schools to your school. This page is for teachers in nurseries, reception classes and infant schools who want an interactive, fun science session. Children hatch fizzy dino eggs, find out what dinosaurs ate and dig for puzzle pieces like young palaeontologists. A friendly presenter leads every session and keeps it engaging. It fits early years and KS1 learning. Contact our team or call 03301131136 to check your date.
What Is a Dinosaur Workshop?
A school dinosaur workshop is a live, educational workshop for young children. Pupils become dinosaur detectives. They learn about dinosaur traits, what dinosaurs ate and how long ago dinosaurs lived. They also join in with experiments, so learning stays active, fun and exciting.
This is an interactive dinosaur workshop, so kids take part instead of only watching. These hands-on experiences reinforce classroom learning and curriculum topics. We lead the session from start to finish, so teachers can enjoy it with the class.
What Happens in Our Dinosaur Workshops
Our educational dinosaur workshop mixes science, play and discovery. Everyone gets involved. Here is what children do.
Hatch Baby Dinosaurs with Fizzy Dino Eggs
Our dinosaur science workshop starts with a fizzy surprise. The dinosaur eggs are bicarbonate of soda, and the dinosaur juice is vinegar. When they mix, the eggs bubble over and the baby dinosaurs hatch. The excitement builds as the fizz grows. Children see a chemical reaction up close and discover that science is not only in textbooks. Older classes can try more experiments like this in our Fizz, Bang, Pop workshop.
What's on the Menu? Herbivores, Carnivores and Omnivores
Ever wondered what a T. rex would eat? Our mini palaeontologists find out. Children hear how herbivores, carnivores and omnivores differ. Imagine a hungry T. rex facing beans on toast. Silly ideas like this get everyone laughing. Children interact with the presenter and share their own ideas. Learning becomes play, and play becomes learning. You can follow this up with our page on food chains and food webs.
Dino Puzzle Quest
Next, it is time to dig for dinosaur puzzle pieces. This is a pretend fossil dig and a fun team game. Each team uncovers fragments of an ancient creature. Pupils interact with their teammates and discover which pieces fit. Together they create a whole dinosaur. It might be a swift Velociraptor, a Brachiosaurus or a spiky Stegosaurus. Careful digging takes patience and attention to detail. Teamwork wins the day.
What Children Learn About Prehistoric Life
Science is about curiosity, not memorising facts. The workshop is interactive, and questions are welcome. Why did dinosaurs disappear? How did they move? What colour were their feathers? Children are encouraged to ask about how dinosaurs lived, their movement, their eventual extinction and feathered dinosaurs.
Fossils are a fantastic way to talk about history and the past. They also help children understand extinction and evolution. Curious minds explore, and exploration leads to discovery. Pupils explore the world of dinosaurs and see how life on Earth has changed.
Pupils also build early science skills and knowledge. They observe closely, ask questions and work as a team. These skills help students in every school subject. Future scientists start with questions like these.
Dinosaur Workshops for Early Years and Primary Schools
Our dinosaur workshops suit children aged 6 and under. We cater for nursery, reception and early KS1 year groups. We design the activities for younger children. Tell us your year group when you book, and we will match the session to your class.
Matching the Session to Age Groups
Older students can join too, because we can customise the workshop for other age groups. We can adapt it to a range of year groups. Primary schools can use it as a lively start to an animals topic. Take a look at our pages for nurseries and preschools, infant and junior schools and primary school workshops.
Links to the National Curriculum
Teachers can link the session to the national curriculum for science. Here are three curriculum links.
- Year 1, Animals, including humans: Pupils name animals that are carnivores, herbivores and omnivores.
- Year 3, Rocks: Pupils describe in simple terms how fossils are formed.
- Year 6, Evolution and inheritance: Pupils learn that fossils give information about living things from millions of years ago.
Dinosaur Workshops for a School Day and School Assembly Ideas
We can run several sessions in one day, so a full day of classes can take part. Some schools use our dinosaur workshops for kids as a themed school day or an end-of-term visit. It can make a memorable day for the whole school.
Thinking about a school assembly? This is only an idea, so contact us to ask what is possible for your group size. We bring the workshop to your school, so tell us whether you have a classroom or school hall.
