Sound is more than just something we hear- it’s energy in motion. In this workshop, participants learn how vibrations create sound waves. Additionally, they explore how those waves move through air, liquids, and solids. Furthermore, through carefully guided experiments, abstract scientific concepts become tangible and easy to understand.
Physics of Sound
At its core, the physics of sound is defined by the study of mechanical waves. These waves are created when an object vibrates. Consequently, this movement disturbs the surrounding medium - whether it's air, water, or a solid material. This oscillation creates alternating regions of compression and rarefaction, which travel outward as energy. Understanding these principles allows us to explain how we perceive different pitches and volumes. Furthermore, we can identify unique timbres in the world around us.
